Woodpeckers – Year 1

Welcome to the Woodpecker Class!

Hello and welcome to the Woodpecker class page. My name is Mrs Saberton-Kitch and I am the teacher in the Woodpecker class from Monday to Wednesday. I am currently in my 13th year of teaching and have taught in both KS1 and KS2. I am also the Deputy Headteacher, SENCo, English and Phonics Subject Leader and run the School Council.   I am particularly interested in different cultures and ways of life and have been to The Gambia several times.  During my time there I supported various projects in schools and their surrounding communities. In my spare time I enjoy dancing, camping and spending time with my family and friends.

Hello, my name is Mrs Baxter. This is my first year of teaching at Coates, although I have been teaching for many years across both KS1 & 2. I am very excited to be joining you all and will be teaching in the Woodpecker class on Thursdays and Fridays. I love to spend my spare time with my family. We enjoy walking, travelling and watching films

We are really looking forward to teaching our different topics this year:

Autumn Term 1:- Help the aliens are coming!

Autumn Term 2: Toys

Spring Term 1: Superheroes

Spring Term 2: Pride of Britain

Summer Term 1: Once upon a time

Summer Term 2: The Seaside

Useful information

  • Weekly homework challenges include: spellings, reading, Bug Club and work set on Google Classroom.

  • Children are expected to read at home regularly and bring their reading book to school on their timetabled day.

  • If your child is having a school dinner then please share the different options available with them so that they know whether they are having the meat, vegetarian or pick and mix option.

  • During the Summer term the children will complete their phonics screening check. This is a National test which all children in Year 1 are required to complete. We will be working towards this throughout the year.

We have a brilliant year ahead and we are really looking forward to working with the children and supporting them in their learning.  If you have any questions then please let us know.

Many thanks,

Mrs Saberton-Kitch and Mrs Baxter
