Letter from Mrs Walker

Welcome to the Goldfinches Class!

Hello, I'm Mrs Penney and I'm really excited to be teaching in Year 3 again this year. This is my fifth year of teaching and I am Music and History lead. I am very interested in history and also love singing and playing the piano.

We have some really exciting topics to look forward to for this academic year:

Autumn 1 - BOOM!

Autumn 2 - Through the Ages

Spring 1 - Who Built the Pyramids?

Spring 2 - The 4 Kingdoms

Summer 1 - The 4 Kingdoms

Summer 2 - Snecking through the Fens

For Autumn Term 1, PE (gymnastics) will be on a Tuesday afternoon and swimming will be on a Thursday afternoon. Please send your child with a named kit for both PE and swimming.

HOMEWORK

I am really keen on the main work children do being reading, spelling and practicing their number skills. We have three school websites to support this, and I hope you are able to support your child in accessing these once a week. The links are as follows:

This week in Science we have been investigating how water travels around a plant. We wanted to see how far the water travels up the stem of a flower so we put blue food colouring in the water of a white rose. 24 hours later our petals had started to turn blue! 48 hours later we noticed there were blue splodges in the leaves, showing the water had travelled all around the flower.

Exotic Animal Visit

We were recently visited by the Exotic Animal Company and we were all very excited to learn about lots of different animals. The children loved watched the baby meerkats run around and enjoyed watching Toby the Tortoise amble around the outside area and the hall.

As well as learning your weekly spellings, try to learn to read and write all of these words in the lists I have attached. I would be really pleased if you could then add these into your writing.
