Goldfinches – Year 3

Welcome to the Goldfinches Class!

Hello, I’m Nicola Parker and I am thrilled to be teaching your children. I’ve worked in Cambridgeshire for 11 years and before that I was teaching in London for 12 years. I love learning myself and hope that I inspire your children to be as excited about learning as I am.

I like a mix of traditional teaching and using media to support learning, so we will look at texts and handwriting over the visualiser, but also use video clips and hands on experiments to learn. The children have already enjoyed a rock walk around school and I hope that we will also have a visit from a member of staff at the Whittlesey Museum quite soon.

We have started working in talk partners, which helps children develop their learning through talk as well as looking at the importance of feedback to help them move their learning on. There is quite a big jump into working in a KS2 way, and there are greater expectations about independence in organisation and setting their own challenges.

The children enjoyed their first swimming lesson and starting our new topics. I love to hear about anything you have been able to do at home to support learning. This is a quick overview of what we are studying this half term:

Stone Age to Iron Age Man

This will cover art, history, geography, music and link with our English and Science.

Story Analysis and newspaper reports/recounts

Place value, addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division

Religious Education

What do people believe about the creation of our world?

Beginning and belonging

PE will be on a Wednesday and the children can come in their PE kit as we will now be having PE before break. Swimming will be on a Thursday for the next 9 weeks.

I am really keen on the main work children do being reading and practicing their number skills. We have two school websites to support this, and I hope you are able to support your child in accessing these once a week. The links are as follows:

School have also just invested in Spelling Shed:

If you need any help accessing these sites or need a new password please let me know.

Many thanks, Mrs Parker

As well as learning your weekly spellings, try to learn to read and write all of these words in the lists I have attached. I would be really pleased if you could then add these into your writing.
