Hello, I'm Mrs Penney and I am so excited to be back in Key Stage 2 and teaching Year 3 this year. We have lots of fun and interesting topics ahead of us! I am the Music and History lead and this will be my eleventh year at Coates Primary School. I love to sing and play the piano and also love sewing in my spare time. I also love to spend lots of time with my family.
We have some really interesting topics to look forward to this academic year:
Autumn 1-Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Rocks and Fossils
Autumn 2-The Stone Age to the Iron Age
Spring 1- Settlements
Spring 2- Ancient Egypt
Summer 1 -The UK and the local area
Summer 2 -Ancient Maya
In art we designed and made our own volcano models. We had to use papier mache to create the volcano and experiment with colour mixing and layering our paint.
In PE we have been working on our gymnastics unit of stretching and curling. We have learnt how to use different stretches and we have also learnt how to balance on apparatus.
In music we have created our own compositions using percussion instruments linked to the eruption of a volcano. We had to research the different stages of a volcanic eruption and then represent each stage using different instruments and techniques.
PE is on Mondays and Wednesdays, please make sure your child comes to school in their P.E. kit and that it is suitable for the weather. The lesson on Wednesday will always be outside.
Children are expected to read at least 5 times a week and bring their reading book and diary to school every day. Their reading records will be checked every Thursday. Children can change their reading book any day of the week but we will check if they need to change it on Thursdays.
