Woodpeckers – Year 1

Welcome to the Woodpecker Class!

Hello and welcome to the Woodpecker class page. My name is Miss Kitch and I am really excited about teaching Year 1 this year. I am currently in my 9th year of teaching and have taught in both KS1 and KS2. I am the KS1 Leader, Maths and Phonics curriculum Leader and run the School Council.

I am particularly interested in different cultures and ways of life and have been to The Gambia several times.  During my time there I supported various projects in schools and their surrounding communities. In my spare time I enjoy dancing, camping and spending time with my family and friends.

I am really looking forward to teaching our different topics this year:

Autumn Term 1:- Help the aliens are coming!

Autumn Term 2:- Celebrate good times!

Spring Term 1:- Superheroes

Spring Term 2:- Pride of Britain

Summer Term 1:-  Once upon a time

Summer Term 2:- The Seaside

Breaking news, an alien has landed at Coates Primary School!

At approximately 11am on Tuesday the 6th of September the skills of Year 1 and 2 children were called upon to investigate a suspicious landing in the sensory garden! The children used their detective skills to explore various objects that had been left behind and recorded lots of evidence. They decided that an alien had landed from the 'Aliens love underpants' story as there were even a pair of pants left hanging in a tree! They discovered a coded message from Oblob and the Zorgons which luckily said 'We come in peace to find out about Coates and planet Earth'. The children are looking forward to telling Oblob all about where they live over the next few weeks.

Useful information

  • Weekly homework challenges include: spellings, reading, Mathletics and Bug Club.

  • Children are expected to read at home regularly and bring their reading book to school every day.

  • Half Termly homework projects. These are set at the start of every half term. Children are to choose at least 3 of the activities to complete at home. Completed homework is to be handed in on the Monday of the last full week of each half term.

  • If your child is having a school dinner then please share the different options available with them so that they know whether they are having the meat, vegetarian or salad option.

  • During the Summer term the children will complete their phonics screening test. This is a National test which all children in Year 1 are required to complete. We will be working towards these throughout the year.

We have a brilliant year ahead and I am really looking forward to working with the children and supporting them in their learning.  If you have any questions please feel free to come and see me.

Many thanks,

Top
